Closing Argument

You know what makes Curry even more underrated? The fact that this whole discussion probably means nothing to him. Of course winning the MVP would be nice. But I’m not actually here to argue that Curry deserves an MVP. What’s really important, both to Curry and his status as an underrated superstar, is winning a championship.

After the Suns game Monday night, Curry had this to say about his team’s success so far this season:

"“I’m the longest tenured Warrior, and I’ve been through some tough times, and obviously the fan base and the organization for the last 20-25 years has kind of been struggling to get back to that championship-caliber level, so for us to have consistent success year after year — but obviously, we have a lot of work to do left. “With so much talent in this room, you have to be able to take advantage of it. This is a special team, a special group, we’re put together to do a job and win a championship and realize that potential. That’s the big picture but obviously you can tell the way we played tonight the focus is night in and night out. It’s a cliche, but it’s basically how we have to go about our business it we want to get to that next level of where we want to go.”"

Stephen Curry is already an MVP candidate. He’s already one of the best point guards in the league and one of its most popular, likable players. But Curry also knows the ultimate goal and the steps it takes to get there. Whether he wins an MVP or a leads the Dubs to a championship this year is not even the most relevant criteria for this discussion.

The fact we’re even having this conversation, just a few years after he couldn’t even make the All-Star team, means something. Between his defense, the entertainment factor and his status as one of the most influential players on the court this year, there are dozens of reasons why Stephen Curry is still underrated.
