Kentucky Wildcats: 30 Greatest Players in School History
By Bobby Reagan
10. Jack ‘Goose’ Givens
4 seasons, 16.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 51% FG, 80% FT
The man known as “Goose” certainly built quite the resume during his Big Blue Career. Not only did he win a national championship in 1978 (as well as being its leading scorer with 18.1 ppg), he’s also a three time All-American, NCAA Final Four MVP and the 1978 National Player of the Year.
He memorably scored 41 points against Duke in the NCAA Championship game. Givens sits third on the Kentucky all-time scorer’s list with 2,038 points, which is just 42 points shy of number two on that list. The 41 point performance is talked about as the best single-game performance in Kentucky’s history. He scored 16 consecutive points to close the first half before torching Duke’s zone with his midrange jumper in the second half.
