NBA Power Rankings: Impact of the 2015 Trade Deadline
10. Dallas Mavericks
Previous: No. 12
Record: 39-20
Last Week: 3-1
Key Acquisition: Rajon Rondo, PG; Amar’e Stoudemire, PF/C
The Dallas Mavericks didn’t make a deal at the 2015 NBA Trade Deadline, but they executed a pair of deals to dramatically improve their future. They landed point guard Rajon Rondo from the Boston Celtics and recently signed Amar’e Stoudemire.
Both moves will be vital to the future of the organization.
Monta Ellis deserved to be an All-Star and Tyson Chandler has dominated the boards, while Dirk Nowitzki continues to add an unparalleled dynamic at power forward. Chandler Parsons is developing more consistency and Devin Harris is underrated, but this comes down to Rondo and STAT.
Rondo’s spat with Rick Carlisle doesn’t help things.
It’s also an exaggerated issue.
The hurdle for Dallas will be developing the proper chemistry and consistency with a higher level of defensive intensity. Stoudemire will improve the offensive fluidity, but rim protection beyond Chandler remains a weakness.
Chances are, Dallas isn’t done yet.
