5. Legitimate Front-Court Depth

Larry Bird made the move to acquire Luis Scola prior to last season, but his production was up-and-down all season long. Scola has been much better this season, and has helped provide the Indiana Pacers with legitimate depth at the two front-court positions. He has averaged 9.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game off the bench this year.

Lavoy Allen was acquired by the Pacers in the Evan Turner for Danny Granger trade, and has been a very solid player this season. He hasn’t gotten a lot of playing time over the past few weeks, but he has averaged 6.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game when given the playing time.

Ian Mahinmi is currently the primary backup for Roy Hibbert, and has averaged 4.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game.

All three of those players are going to need to continue coming up big for the Pacers as the playoffs approach. David West and Hibbert aren’t playing terrible basketball either, but they need to pick things up as well. Indiana needs their front-court to be dominant on the defensive side of the basketball especially, and they have the depth to do that.
