NBA Power Rankings: All 30 Teams’ Needs at Trade Deadline
19. Charlotte Hornets
Previous: No. 19
Record: 22-30
Last Week: 0-0
Biggest Need: Scorers
The Charlotte Hornets have a healthy Al Jefferson, but are now without Kemba Walker. Mo Williams was acquired to fill that void, but the Hornets’ offense remains a major question mark.
Until Lance Stephenson lives up to his potential, that void will remain.
Jefferson’s an All-NBA center, but Charlotte currently ranks No. 27 in scoring offense and No. 29 in field goal percentage. It’s shooting just 42.2 percent from the field as a team and is converting a league-worst 30.8 percent from 3-point range.
Williams helps in that regard, but one player isn’t enough to fix a flawed offense.
In order to land an immediate impact player, Charlotte would need to trade some of its more promising players. Fortunately, it has a surplus of interior assets with youth on their side.
Jefferson has a player option for 2015-16, and if the Hornets can’t build a contender around him now, it’ll be tough to convince him to stay in the prime of his career.
