Curry and Harden

Westbrook may have won the ASG MVP honors, but it’s really James Harden and Stephen Curry duking it out for the 2014-15 NBA MVP award (with Anthony Davis probably needing to make the playoffs to have a shot). Westbrook stole the spotlight for most of the night, but that doesn’t mean Curry and Harden were slacking off either.

Curry only finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists, but that didn’t stop him from providing some of the niftiest ball-handling and top plays of the night. Take, for example, Exhibit A:

Curry’s dimes also reminded us why the All-Star Game is so much fun, even with the defense playing at half-speed (and “half” might be generous). I mean, would we really have known if Dirk Nowitzki were still capable of finishing an alley-oop otherwise?

But here we’ve been going on and on about Curry without mentioning the Beard, my current favorite to win MVP this season. If it weren’t for Westbrook’s 41-point explosion, Harden likely would’ve won the ASG MVP after he put up 29 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in 27 minutes of action.

Harden shot 11-of-16 from the field and was so in the zone at one point he made LeBron James look like a traffic cone defender.

However, the play of the night involved both of these Western Conference stars and came pretty early on in the game. It involved Curry’s shifty dribbling, a flashy no-look pass, Harden throwing down a wicked dunk and I really won’t say much more than that because my words won’t quite do it justice.

Just know that on the “Did the play cause a room full of guys in their early 20s to stand up off the couch and scream in exclamation like ancient Roman conquerors charging into battle?” scale, it got a perfect 10:
