Westbrook Wins MVP

If you’re still not onboard with Russell Westbrook being awesome, I don’t know what I can do for you at this point. After his teammate Kevin Durant made headlines for his comments about the media, Westbrook reminded us all why the Oklahoma City Thunder duo will never lack coverage no matter what they say off the court.

Scoring an All-Star record 27 points in the first half (off the bench!), Westbrook finished his night with 41 points, one point shy of tying Wilt Chamberlain‘s record for most points in an All-Star Game (42) — a record Wilt set back in 1962. Russ went 16-of-28 from the field, made five of his nine threes and spent his night doing things like this:

In case you couldn’t tell from that angle, Westbrook actually hit his head on the backboard for that alley-oop. In the category of “problems I will never understand,” this one probably tops the list from last night.

People will continue to hate on Westbrook for not passing enough, and that’s fine. But last night, Russ was in peak form on one of the league’s biggest stages at Madison Square Garden, earning a well-deserved All-Star Game MVP trophy. You do you, Russ.
