In an article that I wrote a few weeks ago, I argued why I think that Dwyane Wade should be an All-Star over Kyle Korver. Well, it seems as though the stars, in the form of injury, have made a decision for us, and that is Kyle Korver. He will be replacing Wade in this year’s All-Star game. It’s certainly fair, and well deserved.

Wade is injured, and has to protect himself right now as much as possible, and Korver has played really well on the best team in the league (especially after they beat the Golden State Warriors).

Carmelo Anthony, it seems, is also planning on sitting out of the All-Star Game (and possibly the rest of the season), because of his aggravated knee. We are sort of seeing the decline of an epoch with all of these stars being out of the All-Star game. Kobe Bryant, Wade, Anthony being out is signifies something. I’m not suggesting that their careers are over, not yet anyways.

But what I am suggesting is that they are beginning to see that they are in the twilight of their careers.

These stars which are dimming, are making way for the newer stars this season. It will be interesting to see going forward how next season will play out. Many are suggesting that Kobe comes back in full form, and that he is looking to be the old Black Mamba once more. Anthony will not let his max contract go to waste, and he is still only 31 years old.

Wade is the one losing the most, but can still be capable if he is healthy.

But his team might be the one that goes the furthest this season, despite the fact that he doesn’t play in the All-Star Game. Recently, with a loss to both the Charlotte Hornets and the Brooklyn Nets, Miami has reclaimed the seventh spot in the East. The margin is not by a lot, so Miami does have to be careful in this situation.

But with Chris Bosh playing excellent basketball as of late, scoring 32 points against the New York Knicks, along with 18 points from Mario Chalmers, Miami is looking to play some better basketball before Wade comes back.

They have the Cleveland Cavaliers coming up, a tough matchup. But Miami has beaten them before. They also have another matchup in New York, and against the Philadelphia 76ers and the Orlando Magic. These are games that Miami has to win if they want to keep their spot. Doing so would benefit them, and would build coherence while Wade rests up.

With the emergence of Hassan Whiteside, Miami might be able to not only make the playoffs, but win a series against the Chicago Bulls, who have struggled recently.

All of it is predicated on whether or not Wade will be able to return back to full health. His knee has been a chronic issue for the Heat, but this is not what has kept him out. It has been his hamstring. Let’s just hope nothing else happens to him. Sitting out of the All-Star might ensure that that doesn’t happen.
