Why The Brooklyn Nets Should Consider A Fire Sale
There’s Nobody To Build Around
Let’s face it, the Brooklyn Nets just don’t have the firepower anymore. And that isn’t a result of a lack of skill, it might just be that they are finally starting to realize that they aren’t as young as they used to be.
Brook Lopez is the youngest of the group at 26 years old and still moves relatively slowly while also having foot and ankle issues. Kevin Garnett throws the curve off at 38 years old. Joe Johnson is 33 years old and Deron Williams is 30 years old. These are your best players and the average age is nearly 32.
And there is no sign of youth for these players who are enduring bodily decay with each minute that passes.
As they say, Father Time is always undefeated. None of these players have the capacity to lead a team anymore. Those days are long gone. The Nets need a new face for the franchise, one that can lead them to the next phase of where they want to go. Maybe they can trade Lopez to the Miami Heat for Whiteside, a great addition for the Heat.
This way, they can try to gain some youth, some freshness and do it very cheaply.
