6MOY: Marreese Speights

I’ve already covered why Mo Speights is a league-wide candidate for the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year Award, so suffice it to say he’s got this category locked up on his own team as well.

Averaging 12.4 points and 5.0 rebounds off the bench, Speights’ numbers won’t dazzle anyone. But considering Golden State’s incredible depth and the fact that he’s only playing 18.4 minutes per game, he’s actually one of the most efficient players in the league per minute.

Don’t believe me? Check out his Per 36 Minutes numbers:

  • 24.2 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.3 blocks, 51.6 percent shooting

He’s had some huge games for the Dubs off the bench so far this season, including a season-high 28 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder, 27 against the Charlotte Hornets (16 in the fourth quarter) and 26 against the Toronto Raptors.

Speights is a rugged player. He’s a bruiser, he’s got a bit of an attitude and he’s become a fierce, productive Warrior. He’d basically fit in perfectly with the Game of Thrones universe. The fact that he’s quite possibly the most efficient source of production off the bench per 36 minutes in the entire league certainly doesn’t hurt his case either.

Plus, come on, even though the Warriors are no longer allowed to be “in love with the coco” (because, you know, it’s actually a song about cocaine), how can we not consider Speights a team player after organizing all these celebratory Instagram gems after wins?
