Potential Trade Destination No. 1: Los Angeles Clippers

The Celtics have already made one deal with the Clippers, sending Austin Rivers to Los Angeles as part of a three-team trade with the Phoenix Suns. However, even with the addition of Rivers, the Clippers could still use some help for their bench.

The Clippers already have an elite scorer on their bench named Jamal Crawford, who has been forced into a facilitating role this season because of the team’s lack of a true backup point guard. The addition of Thornton would remove some of the pressure on Crawford, and form a backcourt with plenty of offensive firepower.

The intriguing part of this potential trade is what the Celtics would receive in return. A few seasons ago, Boston was close to trading Kevin Garnett for DeAndre Jordan. Now that the Celtics are loaded with first-round draft picks and young talent (as well as some big trade exceptions), they could make another run for the high-flying center.
