Boston Celtics Trade Rumors: Earlier this week, I outlined five potential trade destinations for Brandon Bass. Today, the focus shifts to another trade candidate: Marcus Thornton.

Not too long ago, Marcus Thornton was a premier scorer in the league.

During the 2010-11 season, Thornton averaged 21.3 points per game for the Sacramento Kings. The following year he averaged 18.7.

Were those numbers inflated because he was the primary scoring option on a bad team? Yes, but dropping 20 points per night is impressive, no matter what team a player is on.

Now, just a few seasons removed from being a borderline all-star, Thornton finds himself in a bench role for a Boston Celtics team that’s in the midst of a giant rebuild.

More from Hoops Habit

Thornton is averaging career-low minutes per game, and does not appear to be part of Boston’s future, despite only being 27 years old.

So what’s next for the shooting guard?

In recent weeks, reports surfaced that the Celtics are actively shopping Thornton. That should come as no surprise, since Boston is essentially shopping everybody not named Marcus Smart or James Young.

There’s always a demand for proven scorers, and it would not be surprising to see a playoff team make a push for Thornton before the trade deadline. This is the final year of his contract, and he would be an ideal fit for a team looking for a rental player to boost its bench scoring.

Who would be interested in Thornton? Here are five potential teams that may come calling for the guard’s services.
