Pro: An Ideal Situation Playing For Papa Doc?

For a young player struggling to find his way in the NBA, though, what better way to learn the ropes than playing for someone you’re familiar with, someone who just so happens to be one of the best head coaches in the league?

Rivers didn’t play for his father at Duke, where he played the most relevant and successful basketball of his life. But Doc is a coach with championship experience who might be able to help his son finally break through the barrier to becoming a useful NBA player.

Not all father-son pairings work out at the club team level, let alone the professional level. But it’s not outlandish to suggest that perhaps Austin Rivers’ best shot at being a productive player is playing for someone he’s familiar with that will give him a chance to succeed.
