In a time where it seems like every player coming out of high school ends up being a bit overrated in terms of hype, it is the players that stick around for a while that end up getting the shaft. Juniors and seniors often get overlooked, mostly because they won’t be taken in the lottery of the NBA Draft.
Though the NBA has very little to do with college basketball at this point in the season, it plays a role as to who fans, both passionate and casual, pay attention to.
These players that are overlooked now are often the ones that earn the accolades at the end of the season, such as conference Player of the Year and All-America. For example, in last year’s star-studded freshmen class, only three freshmen earned All-America honors, with only one earning first team honors. Of the other four that earned first team honors, all four of them were seniors.
As the season progresses, these currently under the radar players should start to see some more exposure as their respective teams continue to succeed, but it’s about time we shed some light on them to let viewers get a head start on the process.
