Former NBA star shooting guard Ray Allen is leaning towards retirement, despite having interest from multiple teams.

Ray Allen was one of the best scorers in the NBA in his prime, and he is the best three-point shooter in NBA history. He has had a lot of success throughout his 18-year career, but it appears that he is prepared to walk away from the game unless something changes in the near future.

According to a report from Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Allen is leaning towards retirement despite having major interest from multiple teams.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are the team that has been linked to Allen the most throughout the offseason and up to this point in the regular season. LeBron James was hoping that he could convince Allen to join him in Cleveland and make another run at a championship, but that doesn’t appear to be intriguing Allen at this point. Other teams like the Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, and Memphis Grizzlies have been linked to Allen as well.

Cleveland was where many expected to see Allen land, as he was viewing them as his top choice up to fairly recently. Playing alongside of James made things much easier for Allen in Miami, and that would have likely been his landing spot. As for the Clippers, Bulls, and Grizzlies, they were intriguing teams too that didn’t have quite the star power that Allen was looking to play beside.

More from Hoops Habit

Throughout his career, Allen has scored 24,505 points, made 2,973 three-point shots, and has been one of the definitions of professional in the league.

Needless to say, seeing him walk away from the game of basketball would be a sad day for the NBA. He has done so much for the game and the community, and has been one of the most clutch players as well. Without him, the Heat wouldn’t have won their championship two years ago over the San Antonio Spurs.

Obviously there is still a chance that he will change his mind and get the itch to play basketball again. The teams that have shown interest in him are not going to pull their interest away if he decides to come back for one more run, but he appears to be content not being out on the court anymore. Only time will tell, but we very well may have seen the last of a star.
