The short-handed Chicago Bulls defeated the Memphis Grizzlies 103-97 on Dec. 19 despite the absences of Derrick Rose and Taj Gibson.

The Chicago Bulls were playing their second game in as many nights and were facing a Memphis Grizzlies team that boasted the second best record in the league at 21-4, including a 12-1 mark at home.

In addition to that, the Grizzlies were riding a six-game winning streak, including impressive victories over the Golden State Warriors and the defending champion San Antonio Spurs.

Throw in the fact the Grizzlies had won four of the previous five meetings between these two clubs and it’s easy to see why they would be considered favorites to win this contest. However, despite the deck being stacked against them, the Bulls managed to squeak out a 103-97 victory, improving their record away from the United Center to 12-4.

Here are five observations from this contest.
