5. Tyrone Corbin

Perhaps a tad obvious, but since the Kings are severely lacking in quality head coaching options, we have to at least include the incumbent on our list. Corbin’s .434 win percentage in his three-plus seasons coaching the Utah Jazz shouldn’t inspire a ton of confidence, but as an assistant under Mike Malone, he’ll at least be relatively familiar with how to get the best out of this team.

Unfortunately, Corbin might not be the right coach for a front office that, for whatever reason, wants to play at a much faster pace. Despite Sacramento’s best player being a post-dominant big, owner Vivek Ranadive wants to push the tempo and has even suggested experimenting with a 5-on-4 defense with one guy leaking out for easy fast breaks.

In his three full seasons with the Jazz, Corbin’s teams had an average pace of 91.2 and ranked 12th, 21st and 26th in the league, respectively. Since Corbin isn’t exactly a proven winner, he may be more willing to try Ranadive’s crazy ideas to turn this gig into something more permanent…even if doing so might not actually lead to wins.
