Phoenix Suns trade Gerald Green and Miles Plumlee to Dallas Mavericks for Brandan Wright

On the surface, I’d guess both teams’ fans would scoff at this one. Suns fans probably think Wright is overrated and is more of a product of his system, while Mavericks fans would probably think that offense isn’t where they need help, so why make this trade?

Essentially, this trade serves to do a few things. First off, Wright is having a terrific year (shooting league-best 74.4 percent, leads team with 38 blocks) and is sure to get a very large contract offer this summer. The Mavericks aren’t afraid to spend money, but they’re not going to want to give Wright a ton of money while Tyson Chandler is in front of him.

Plumlee is a serviceable backup who can play well for short stretches, and that’s all that will be asked of him. He can challenge shots and although he’s quite foul prone, he’s shown glimpses of defensive ability (that sounds bad, I know). Green would provide more shooting off the bench for Dallas, as their bench is shooting just 34.9 percent from three.
