The San Antonio Connection

For those of you unfamiliar with the Hawks, the organization is currently following a very defined blueprint in the hopes of achieving success. Just like most franchises around the NBA, Atlanta dreams of emulating the San Antonio Spurs, but the difference here is that the Hawks have actually put steps into action to make it happen.

Starting with the appointment of Danny Ferry, a man who was brought up and embedded in the Spurs organization, as general manager, the Hawks began to make decisions with more than a touch of a Spurs feel to them.

They hired Mike Budenholzer, longtime Spurs assistant, as coach, they started drafting European players, and they implemented an unselfish, ball-movement based style of play on the court. Sound familiar?
