Free Agency

With Dragic being overshadowed by the rest of his backcourt mates, it’s no wonder speculation has started to arise about his long-term future in Phoenix. Only a week ago, the Sporting News reported that Dragic would test free agency, with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers listed as potential suitors.

The Dragon was expected to opt out of the final year of his contract at the end of this season anyway, but it was always so he could re-sign with the Suns. Dragic has been happy in Phoenix and has called it his second home away from Slovenia many times. But if he continues to struggle and Hornacek has no choice but to phase him out in favor of Bledsoe and Thomas, is it unreasonable to think a lucrative contract offer might sway him to leave?

If that were the case, the Suns might not even be inclined to give Dragic the same kind of big-time deal he’ll earn elsewhere. Gogi will be a hot commodity next summer, especially for teams like the Rockets and Lakers who desperately need a point guard to elevated them to the next level. Dragic has always been happy in Phoenix, but what happens if he ends up taking on a lesser role and winds up being unhappy?
