The Struggles Of The Dragon

Before we dive into all the free agency rumblings and speculation, it’s important to understand why Dragic’s future in Phoenix has become a bit questionable. In 15 games this season, Dragic is averaging 14.1 points and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor and 30.4 percent from three-point range.

Those numbers aren’t terrible, but they’re obviously significant drop-offs from last season’s production. A bit of regression was to be expected since Eric Bledsoe only played 43 games last year and Isaiah Thomas‘ arrival meant neither of these three point guards were ever going to put up All-NBA numbers. But even if we give Dragic a bit of leeway with the arrival/return of two stellar point guards, he’s still struggled to find his place.

When he’s been on, Dragic is the same Dragon we all know and love from last season. It was only last week he was the best player on the floor, putting up 22 points, seven assists and six rebounds against the Boston Celtics. But coming off a six-point, 3-for-9 performance against the Toronto Raptors that saw Dragic ride the bench for most of the fourth quarter, there’s no doubt people are starting to wonder if Isaiah Thomas should see time as a starter instead.
