Atlanta Hawks: Plenty Of Effort, But Shooting Needs To Improve
By Adam McGee
Pero Antic
Pero Antic is quickly becoming the biggest scapegoat Hawks’ fans have. When something goes wrong for Atlanta, the question from the fans always seems to be “why is Antic playing so many minutes?” The reason quite simply is that Antic has offered a lot overall.
He’s second on the roster only to Kyle Korver in terms of plus/minus rating, and also leads the team in defensive rating.
The problem, and what makes Antic appear like an easy target, is he seems to have lost his touch. Although never ultra efficient, towards the beginning of last season Antic was a guy who could be relied upon to make open shots, yet even that has deserted him.
To start the season, Antic is averaging only 37 percent from the field and 22.8 percent from 3-point range.
In order to improve his numbers, Antic needs to reduce his use of the pump fake, and when he gets a chance to shoot the ball in rhythm, he needs to stop passing it on to a teammate.
