Some things have gone exactly as I expected during the first week of ACC basketball. Duke’s freshmen have taken the world by storm, Louisville looks elite thanks to Terry Rozier and Montrezl Harrell, North Carolina has their deepest team in years, and Virginia is playing their usual stifling defense.
On the other hand, Wake Forest and Boston College have dropped games to subpar non-conference opponents. Both teams are under major rebuilding projects with brand new coaches, so they are essentially playing this season with house money.
A few things have taken me by surprise. Some surprises are good, like when you find out mom made pizza rolls. Some surprises are bad, like when you discover that your little brother ate your leftover cake that clearly had your name on it.
These surprises are like that. A few teams surprised by playing better than expected while others dropped games that they should have won. Let’s take a look at some of the positive and negatives of a busy first week.
