Los Angeles Lakers’ forward Ryan Kelly is out for at least six weeks with a torn hamstring.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most embarrassing teams in the NBA this season, and are currently 1-9 on the year with no stop to the embarrassment in sight. They weren’t expected to compete for a playoff spot this year, but they also weren’t expected to be one of the biggest pushovers that the league has seen for awhile. Kobe Bryant has been scoring at a high rate, but has been stamped with the title of ball hog for his shot volume.

Ryan Kelly is a second-year big man for the Lakers this season, and hasn’t had too much of a role so far. Unfortunately for him and the Lakers, he will miss at least six weeks moving forward due to a torn hamstring according to a report from ESPN.com.

Kelly has played in just three games this season for the Lakers, averaging 3.7 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. Last season, he was a rotation player and played very nicely in his rookie season out of Duke. He averaged 8.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game with the Lakers last year, and showed that he could play at the NBA level if his number was called.

That being said, this just adds on to the rough start that the Lakers have had. First they can’t win games, and second they are beginning to lose players to the injury bug. This has the makings of being one of the most embarrassing seasons that the Lakers have suffered through in quite some time.

Hopefully Kelly is able to recover quickly and get back onto the court as quickly as possible. It isn’t likely that he will receive any type of sizable role this season, but he is solid depth. The Lakers need as much as they can get at this point in time.
