Michael Carter-Williams is close to returning from injury for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers have had to struggle through the first part of their season without second-year point guard Michael Carter-Williams, and they will be very happy to have him back on the court. Tony Wroten has done an excellent job of leading the team while Carter-Williams healed from injury, but the reigning Rookie of the Year award winner is ready to get back out on the court and take over that leadership role.

“I was a little winded out there, but I feel great.” Michael Carter-Williams

Carter-Williams finally made his return to the practice court, and talked to CSN Philadelphia about being back playing basketball.

"“It was good to be out there with the guys, just moving the ball and playing together. I am happy to be back.”"

Head coach Brett Brown is also excited to have his point guard back, and talked about the effect that it had on the team with Carter-Williams returning to practice.

"“Apart from him individually looking good, the team was excited to have him. Everyone had an extra bounce to his step. The ball moved, and it was definitely the best passing day that we had had. He is a true point guard. He is the Rookie of the Year. He is coming back feeling that he has to defend his belt. He earned something last year that we are all very proud of, but he will have a bulls-eye on him.”"

Take a look at Michael Carter-Williams’ numbers from last season with the 76ers:

Needless to say, those numbers are impressive for a rookie to put up and he is looking to take them to the next level in 2014-15. Philadelphia is going to be giving him the green light to do whatever he wants with the ball, and it’ll be fun to see how he fits alongside of Nerlens Noel. While the 76ers are likely heading for another high pick, they have a lot of talent on the roster already.

More from Hoops Habit

Having Carter-Williams back on the court will make them a much better team, and they should be able to compete a lot more than they have so far this year. Wroten’s play will continue either off of the bench or at the shooting guard position, and it will make the team much deeper.

Expect to see Carter-Williams make his debut at some point in the near future, and for him to pick up where he left off last season.
