It’s no secret. The NBA is built around superstars, and that’s been the case since Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird were thrashing opponents all across the country.
But, in today’s game, it’s more than “superstars” that carry the NBA to the heights of it’s popularity. Now, it’s becoming the point guard play.
In the offseason, we ranked our 30 starting point guards, and people acted as if someone else was writing their own will. Floor generals concern the NBA audience more than any other position today, and that’s mainly due to the depth there is to converse over. Over half of the league’s teams own point guards that can dazzle you on any given night, and most have even taken over as their squad’s best players.
If you want a point guard heaven, please just go live in Phoenix. The method they’re trying — victimizing you with a three point guard attack — is something we haven’t really witnessed in the modern era. All three of their point guards belong as starters across the league. Nobody denies that.
One week into the 2014-15 season, we’ve already received huge games from some of the league’s top point guards. Others, maybe Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving, have left us with a little sour taste in our mouths.
Taking the injured Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook out of the equation (both have missed two or more games), things get tight when you try to figure out who’s been the best five point guards early into the season.
Rose is scheduled to return soon, once he heals those sprained ankles. Westbrook, on the other
broken
hand, can’t return for another three or four weeks.
So, out of the remaining pool, who’s been the five best point guards to lace up for the young season? Let’s dive in.
Apologies to: Tony Parker, Brandon Knight, Kyle Lowry
