Phoenix Suns: 5 Lessons From Week 1
1. …But they can also lose to anybody
Unfortunately, the Suns are also susceptible to being defeated by anybody, especially if that team has a dominant paint scorer and the Suns’ guards aren’t clicking. Phoenix’s deep backcourt went a combined 11-for-35 from the floor against the Utah Jazz and the Suns converted only seven of their 31 three-point attempts. Meanwhile, Derrick Favors feasted to the tune of 32 points while Alex Len and Markieff Morris struggled with foul trouble.
The Suns were outscored 66-42 in points in the paint and gave up 35 fast break points as the Jazz turned their 52-34 rebounding advantage into quick transition buckets. Even on the second night of a back-to-back it was a poor effort all around that brought Phoenix back down to earth after such a triumphant victory the game before. The Suns are an incredibly promising team, but that stinging 27-point loss should serve as a reminder how hard this team will have to work to make the postseason.
