The Frank Ocean “Thinking About You” Section (Honorable Mention)

I can’t even front, this initial ranking was tough to create since there were so many rookies that played well in the preseason and during their first week as professionals. Since this is only week one of our NBA Rookie Rankings, here are some of the names that are on our honorable mention list.

Nick Johnson – Houston Rockets/SG
It sure is difficult getting minutes in Houston at the guard position. On a team with Isaiah Canaan and Patrick Beverly, it’s tough to stand out. Thankfully on a team that has a bunch of talent, but no one playing defense, Johnson contributes to his team with his athleticism and defensive prowess. Hopefully he can crack this rotation, and not rack up the DNP’s.

T.J. Warren – Phoenix Suns/SG
It’s not like Warren did anything wrong. In fact he played fairly well leading up to the season. The only problem is Warren got injured with a fractured thumb and we don’t know how long we will see his debut. Whenever Warren does return, he will have a good presence within the Suns lineup. Until then, get well soon.

K.J. McDaniels – Philadelphia 76ers/SG
I’ve been debating this player for a while now. I know people who don’t think McDaniels will pan out as a pro. I on the other hand see the complete opposite. I believe McDaniels has the potential to play a major role on a championship winning team because of his skill set. Players who don’t need to score points to impact a game are the best to have on a team. Against the Indiana Pacers, McDaniels scored two points, had an assist, grabbed two rebounds, got a steal and a block. Basically, McDaniels played everywhere all over the court.

Rodney Hood – Utah Jazz/SG
One of the biggest surprises of the 2014 NBA Draft was that the Utah Jazz shooting guard Rodney Hood was not selected in the lottery, but that’s all right. The reason Hood seems like he knows what he’s doing on the court offensively is because “He knows what he’s doing offensively.” There are only a few rookies within the 2014 NBA Draft class that can say they have a better scoring ability than Hood.

Because of the Jazz need for bench scoring and Hood’s game, the Duke prodigy has found himself a perfect landing spot. In the 2014 NBA General Manager’s survey, the general managers of the NBA named Hood as the 2014 NBA Draft’s biggest steal. The lefty’s buttery stroke on jumpers make opponents think he has Mantequilla on his hands as he shoots because his jump shot is truly smooth.

Kyle Anderson – San Antonio Spurs/SG
We feel your pain. Keep getting better. Don’t let the bench splinters kill you. We know you can hoop.
