Quincy Acy’s Effort

Perhaps the most pleasant surprise from the New York Knicks’ 95-90 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers was the energy and production of Quincy Acy. The 24-year-old was a monster on the glass and an impact player in the paint.

Acy finished with eight points, 10 rebounds, two assists and a block on 4-of-7 shooting from the field in 22 minutes of play.

Acy battled down low with three of the best rebounders in the NBA: Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and Anderson Varejao. At 6’7″ and 240 pounds, he managed to pull down boards against players both bigger and more revered than he.

That includes six offensive rebounds.

One game doesn’t tell all, nor does two, but this is the second consecutive contest that Acy’s been utilized in a significant capacity. He played 21 minutes against the Chicago Bulls and put up six points, six rebounds and a block.

Just as he was in college, Acy’s earning playing time by out-working everyone on the court.

In 2012, the Baylor Bears put forth a trio of NBA draft prospects with significant upside. The two most highly-praised players in that draft class were the dynamic offensive weapons Perry Jones III and Quincy Miller.

Not enough attention went to Acy.

Acy, selected No. 37 overall in the 2012 NBA draft, is on his third team in three seasons. After spending time with the Toronto Raptors and the Sacramento Kings, Acy appears to have finally found a team that will utilize his abilities.

Moving forward, the 24-year-old could be a crucial weapon in the Knicks’ postseason aspirations.
