Dallas will get beyond the first round this year

This is the one storyline of the entire 2014 playoffs that still goes overlooked heading into this season: The Mavs were one game away from eliminating the Spurs in the first round … as the No. 8 seed.

Amazing how the general perception is that the Mavs will regress. It’s another year, and Dallas will be an under-the-radar team that can surprise the league.

Adding Chandler Parsons and Tyson Chandler to the mix wasn’t by accident, or was Dallas’ last resorts. They wanted those guys. They will be difference makers, and will put Dallas in a better spot than eighth in the Western Conference.

After the Parsons signing, I thought Dallas would be a top-four team in the West, and I stand by that. If they get home court advantage in the first round, they will get by the first round no matter who is sitting fifth.

Where that leads them, well, stay tuned.
