Former NBA forward Clifford Robinson was recently arrested for DWI and Leandra’s Law violations. In a statement made by police officials,  Robinson was attempting to merge into traffic when he was stopped for failing to use the properly designated lane. Upon inspection of the vehicle and Robinson, in addition to being intoxicated Robinson also had a suspended New York identification card and a suspended New Jersey driver’s license. He would refuse a breathalyzer test and was arrested on the spot.

At 47 years of age, Robinson last saw action in the NBA with the (at the time) New Jersey Nets during the 2006-07 season. Often referred to as “Uncle Cliffy,” by his teammates, Robinson was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the second round of the 1989 NBA draft. In his 18-year career, Robinson was a member also a member of the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warriors. Robinson sported career averages of 14.2 points and 4.6 rebounds.

Standing at 6’10” the forward who was a standout hoops star at the University of Connecticut was also an NBA All-Star with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 1994 season when he averaged 21.3 points per game. He would later retire in 2007, having scored just shy of 20,000 points. Robinson was also sixth-man of the year in the 1992-93 season and made the NBA’s All-Defensive second team twice in his career.

This isn’t the first stint of trouble for Robinson. In 2009 Robinson’s house was burglarized  and would later be auctioned off to satisfy his creditors.Despite having earned more than $62, million in salary during his professional career in the NBA, Robinson would also declare for bankruptcy in the same year.

A somewhat turbulent year for Robinson, he was also involved in the hoops exhibition performance in China, where he would later express regret for his participation. With regards to his violations, Robinson was arraigned in the Town of Elma Court. He is facing charges of DWI (driving while intoxicated), DWI with a child passenger in the car, endangering the welfare of a child, second degree aggravated unlicensed operation and traffic violations. He is scheduled to appear in court on a later date.

Uncle Cliffy is going to need a lawyer.
