Washington Wizards: What To Be Excited About for 2014-15 Season
Reason #3 to be excited: The Washington “Bad Boys”
The Wizards have been adamant throughout the season that they want to be a tough team that plays with an edge. Newly acquired Dejuan Blair said the “Bad Boys,” referring to the famous Detroit Pistons teams of he 80s and 90s were being brought back by this year’s Wizards team.
"“The Bad Boys is back, baby,” Blair proclaimed earlier this week. “Tell them the Bad Boys is back.” (per Washington Post)"
In this day in age we don’t see as many edgy teams as there once was in the league, but the Wizards playing a tough physical brand of basketball with a deep front court could pose problems for opposing teams.
We already saw a glimpse of the bad boy style of play in a preseason game with the Chicago Bulls. Pierce got into a shouting match with Bulls center Joakim Noah that led to Pierce nudging the Bulls center’s forhead. The two had to be separated.
Pierce and Noah were each fined $15,000 while four Wizards were suspended for one game after they left the bench during the incident. Nene, Blair, Daniel orton (recently cut) and Xavier Silas all are suspended for the opening game against the Heat.
Blair told the Washington Post, they wanted to make a statement to the league of how they were going to play this year early on.
"“That wasn’t a statement for just them!” forward DeJuan Blair proclaimed from the corner of the locker room. “That was a statement for the league!”"
While you don’t want the Wizards to play dirty or focus too much on being tough guys, I think it will be exciting to see the Wizards not back down from anyone on a nightly basis.
