The Atlanta Hawks are currently in a bit of turmoil after a lot of racially charged comments were tossed around by both Bruce Levenson and Danny Ferry. There has been quite a bit of interest from many groups that are interested in buying the Hawks, and one of those groups includes former Hawks’ great Dikembe Mutumbo. Fans in Atlanta are very fond of Mutumbo, and if he purchased the Hawks it would make a lot of fans happy.

Mutumbo played with the Hawks for five seasons in his career, and was a fan favorite during those years. The Hawks are finally back to competing for the playoffs and the future hasn’t looked brighter for quite some time. It’s a shame that all of this had to go down like it has, but the franchise going to a loved former player would be a perfect ending to the rough times.

Danny Ferry had done a great job of rebuilding the Hawks back into a contender prior to his racist comments, and that will be the biggest loss for the team. It will be very intriguing to see what happens as far as the sale of the team is concerned, and who ends up purchasing the Hawks. Another thing to keep an eye on is who the new owners decide to hire as the general manager assuming there is no resolution on Ferry by that time.

When everything is said and done, the Hawks simply need to keep things positive. Mutumbo jumping on board would be the perfect way to make sure that happens, and having a basketball mind like his helping run the team would be big as well. Atlanta may not be in the best situation right this second, but they aren’t too far away from major improvement.

It will be very interesting to see how serious Mutumbo is about buying the Hawks, and who ends up buying the team. The Hawks have a lot to be excited about this coming season, and this piece of news just adds to that excitement.
