John Welch — Assistant Coach

John Welch is one of the few holdovers from Jason Kidd’s staff, and as a result he grows all-important. With Lionel Hollins and the rest of his staff trying to learn about the character and skill sets of the roster, Welch is the guy who will be able to give them the inside track.

Not only that, but Welch might just be one of the most underrated assistant coaches in the NBA.

Welch spent eight seasons in Denver as part of George Karl‘s coaching staff, and played a significant role in the Nuggets success in that period. Julyan Stone, a guard for the Denver Nuggets during Welch’s time in Colorado said:

"“I think John Welch loves being in the gym more than anybody on the team.”"

That’s a massive attribute to have in an assistant, and alongside Welch’s love of point guards, it should be a big positive for the Brooklyn Nets this season.
