Wasted Picks

A lot has been talked about the “different” approach that the current Sacramento Kings front office are employing in regards to building a team. Yet in reality, Pete D’Alessandro and his brain trust have done little more than make a number of puzzling decisions. Although it may never figure in the consideration for his most puzzling move, the trade in which they acquired Alonzo Gee should rank up there.

Sacramento wanted to shed Jason Terry’s salary, which was perfectly understandable, yet it seems like they gave up way too much in the process. Not only did they rid the Rockets of two unwanted players in Alonzo Gee and Scotty Hopson, but they also added not one, but two second-round picks for good measure. Having drafted guys like Ray McCallum and Isaiah Thomas as second-rounders in recent years, the Kings should have known better.
