The Atlanta Hawks will be looking forward to starting the new season more than most, following an offseason dominated by off-the-court controversies, and when it comes to play itself, they have reasons to be optimistic. By all means, Shelvin Mack should be one of those reasons too. Mack has already shown himself to be capable and steady, and now this year he will have a chance to kick on even further.

The off-season acquisitions of Thabo Sefolosha and Kent Bazemore could be game-changing for Mack, as with the Hawks now having much greater defensive wing depth, he should now have even greater opportunities to create. As a skilled passer and willing scorer, the onus will fall on Mack, like Jeff Teague, to drive the team forward offensively during his time on the court.

Is Shelvin Mack up to that challenge? If he can bring last season’s form forward, with greater confidence, and another year of experience under his belt, it’s hard to see why he wouldn’t be.
