Phoenix Suns: Breaking Down Bogdan Bogdanovic’s FIBA Play
Bogdan Bogdanovic Is Comfortable Off The Bench
If the FIBA World Cup had a Sixth Man award, Double Bogdan would have been in the running for it. Averaging 12 points, 2.6 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 27 minutes per game, Bogdanovic was Serbia’s biggest punch off the bench and played a large role in their unexpected run through Greece, Brazil and France to the gold medal game.
This is great news for Suns fans, since Bogdanovic will be coming off the bench in Phoenix when he eventually makes his way stateside. In the (inevitable) event that Bledsoe leaves the Suns during or after the 2014-15 season, one backcourt roster spot will have opened up. Green is also in a contract year and it’s unclear whether Phoenix will offer him the kind of contract he might command on the free agency market if he strings together another impressive season.
Serbia’s well established core meant Bogdanovic was relegated to bench duty, but he flourished in that role. He’d be entering a similar role his first few seasons in Phoenix (at least), so Suns fans should feel comfortable with this young talent coming off the bench based on what we saw in Spain.
