March 4, 2012, Knicks vs. Celtics

Celtics win 115-111 in OT

Linsanity had swept the NBA. Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire were still feeling each other out as Melo worked his way back from groin and ankle injuries. Pierce was tremendous in this game with 34 points and some clutch buckets, and Carmelo and Stoudemire combined for 41 points and 20 boards. Still,  Rajon Rondo stole the show. The numbers are so ridiculous I have to list them on a line by themselves:

18 points. 17 rebounds. 20 assists. (Seriously. Click this one).

Since 1986, only Magic Johnson (in 1989 he had a 24-17-17 game) has ever accumulated  such a gaudy statline.  Only Wilt Chamberlain in 1968 surpassed Rondo’s massive totals (Wilt went for 22 points, 25 rebounds and and 21 dimes). New York made a nice run at the end of regulation behind Lin and Anthony, but Rondo shined in overtime, collecting five points, five rebounds, and two assists in the extra frame.

The boy is cold.
