Power Rankings: Top 30 Scorers in the NBA
17. Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs
2013-14 PPG: 16.7
P/48: 27.3
Slash Line: .499/.373/.811
True Shooting Percentage: .555
Tony Parker’s statistics suffer for one very simple reason: he plays under Gregg Popovich for the San Antonio Spurs.
Popovich’s team-over-everything system is how basketball should be played, but it hinders individual players from showing what they’re capable of.
That’s part of what’s prevented Parker from entering the MVP conversation in recent seasons.
Fortunately, Parker’s Hall of Fame resume is complete and his status as a high-level scorer is established.
Parker finished with an average of 16.7 points per game, but his 27.3 points per 48 minutes ranked No. 23 in the NBA.
He did this on a stellar slash line of .499/.373/.811 to create a true shooting percentage of .555.
Despite the unlimited amount of passes that the Spurs execute, NBA.com reports that Parker ranked No. 3 in points via drives per game.
He accounted for 53.4 percent of San Antonio’s total points via drives and shot 52.4 percent on those attempts.
Parker doesn’t always have the biggest numbers, but there’s a reason he’s a perennial All-Star and All-NBA selection: his playmaking and scoring abilities.
