Phoenix Suns: The Pros And Cons Of Signing Zoran Dragic
Con: Crowded Backcourt
Other than the whole loyalty to Goran thing, the Suns wouldn’t really be bringing Zoran to the NBA based on need though. Between the Double Dragons, Bledsoe, Isaiah Thomas, Tyler Ennis, Gerald Green and Archie Goodwin, that’s a pretty crowded backcourt. The Suns already have the league’s deepest backcourt with Dragic, Bledsoe and Thomas, even though one of those guys probably doesn’t want to be in Phoenix during the 2014-15 season since he’ll likely be playing on a $3.7 million qualifying offer.
To be perfectly honest, Zoran might have a better shot at real NBA playing time joining a team with weak guard play or shorthanded benches like the Kings or Pacers. The Suns don’t have the best group of reserves in the league, but they definitely have the league’s deepest backcourt and playing time might be scarce for a 25-year-old rookie.
Could Zoki earn minutes with Jeff Hornacek and his big brother guiding him? It’s certainly possible, and if not for how crowded the backcourt is, Phoenix would definitely be the best environment to improve his NBA game. But even with the Suns having plenty of room to buy him out of his contract and offer him a decent deal, it might not lead to many minutes for Zoran.
