Phoenix Suns: The Pros And Cons Of Signing Zoran Dragic
Pro: It Would Keep Goran Dragic Around
This is a no-brainer. Even if Eric Bledsoe‘s contract negotiations weren’t a giant cluster**k right now, retaining Goran Dragic next summer should be Phoenix’s top priority. The Dragon will be a free agent in 2015 and after being underpaid with his current contract ($7.5 million this season), the loyal Dragic will have earned a lucrative new deal.
To be clear, I would be floored if Dragic even considers signing with another team. The Suns value their Most Improved Player of the Year and wouldn’t have brought him back from the Houston Rockets — back when he was only a decent point guard — if they didn’t. But if the Suns have learned anything from the recent Bledsoe contract debacle, it’s that nothing is guaranteed.
Dragic has said many times that Phoenix is his second home after Slovenia and he reportedly plans on opting out and quickly re-signing. But what better way to ensure Phoenix really is his home than by joining him and his brother together in the Valley of the Sun? There’s no way Dragic could turn his back on that. The Suns are more than likely going to show Dragic how much they love him with a new contract when he’s eligible to re-sign, but bringing Zoki to Phoenix would only sweeten the deal.
