Phoenix Suns: The Pros And Cons Of Signing Zoran Dragic
Con: Heightened Expectations
Zoran Dragic has potential, and it’s no wonder teams have an interest in the 25-year-old brother of an All-NBA player. But as much fun as it’d be to watch the Dragon Ball Z tandem on the nights where they both go off, those games would probably be the exception, not the rule.
Here’s what ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla had to say about Zoran Dragic’s NBA potential in a recent interview with Hoops Habit:
"“I think Zoran can make a team but I also don’t see the kind of stardom for Zoran that I see for his brother Goran Dragic to this point. Goran’s blessed with unusually gifted speed for anybody, European player or American player. He’s a speed demon, he’s great with the ball and he’s a gifted athlete who’s highly skilled. Zoran is more of a shooting guard who, quite frankly, is very streaky. He’s not been a knockdown shooter in Europe to this point. It’s not like he’s a dead-eye shooter a la Reggie Miller, he’s streaky. He’s a good athlete, I think he could hold his own athletically in the NBA, and I think he could make a roster, but I don’t see the kind of stardom for Zoran that Goran has achieved to this point in his career.”"
There you have it. Zoran has potential as a role player off the bench, but he’ll probably never be an NBA star (or maybe even starter) like his big bro. So as much fun as the clever nicknames are right now, Suns fans shouldn’t be expecting to use them on a nightly basis even if he does sign with Phoenix.
