Phoenix Suns: The Pros And Cons Of Signing Zoran Dragic
Con: The Wait/Buyout Situation
The good news is, Zoran’s 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game at the FIBA World Cup caught the eye of nearly one-fourth of the NBA. The bad news is, those teams have a limited amount of time to work with if they want Zoki on their roster for the upcoming 2014-15 season.
Dragic currently still has one year left on his contract with his Spanish club Unicaja Malaga, and for an NBA team to sign him, they’d have to buy him out of his contract by Oct. 5, the deadline to do so. According to Sportando, Dragic is going about business as usual now that Slovenia has been eliminated:
If an NBA team wants to add Dragic, they’d have to be willing to pay a little extra to buy him out of his contract and then agree to a reasonable NBA contract before Oct. 5. Otherwise, they’ll have to wait until the 2015-16 season to sign him. For some teams, that might feel like too much work for a guy who’s no guarantee to turn out even half as good as his brother.
