The moment I heard a rumor stating the Bulls are after veteran free agent guard Ray Allen, I immediately thought of a DMX song. “You’ve been eating enough now, stop being greedy,” is what the rapper turned walking controversy spit on his first album titled “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot.”

If you haven’t heard the song you probably wouldn’t understand the talent monopoly the Bulls would have with Allen in uniform.

More from Chicago Bulls

And although X states otherwise, what could be his polar opposite in Gordon Gecko states “Greed is good.” So maybe the Bulls pursuit of Allen is nothing but positive.

Either way I’ll refrain from revealing my true age any further.

ESPNChicago.com’s Nick Friedell reported, “The Chicago Bulls have touched base with the representatives of veteran shooting guard Ray Allen, a league source confirmed Monday.”

The Bulls have already added some strong pieces for Tom Thibodeau to work with in point guard Aaron Brooks, power forward Pau Gasol, international sensation and hybrid forward Nikola Mirotic, in addition to Doug McDermott via the draft. Did I miss something? Oh yeah, the small factor of getting former MVP and seemingly healthy guard Derrick Rose back into uniform.

Allen would be a nice complement to an already impressive roster of shooters including Mike Dunleavy Jr and rookie McDermott. In his last two seasons with the Heat, Allen put up 1,564 points, while shooting his lowest percentage (39.8).

Despite declined statistics, Allen is still a very deadly shooter from anywhere on the floor and would add to the Bulls agenda of adding more scoring options to the roster.

The Bulls as a team put up a league’s worst 93.7 points per game last season. They were second-worst the previous year, averaging 93.2 points a contest. The last time the Bulls were the league’s worst in scoring was the 2000-01 season played under former head coach Tim Floyd.

It’s fair to say their upcoming roster is much improved over the young core of Elton Brand, Ron Mercer Jamal Crawford, Marcus Fizer and Khalid El-Amin (what happened to him?).

The Bulls aren’t the only team hoping to retain Allen’s hot shooting. The Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs are all interested as well. However the Bulls are in good position to offer Allen ample playing time and championship contention.

Although the Bulls are prepared to start Jimmy Butler at the small guard, they’re prepared to give him some minutes at the three spot to create playing time for Allen. It could mean more playing time than he’s had in the last two seasons with the Miami Heat, and the opportunity to show the league what he has left in the tank.

Considering the Bulls were at the rock bottom of scoring last season, and that Allen has a relationship with Thibodeau dating back to the Boston Celtics championship season in 2008, the Bulls chances of landing Allen are very plausible and from a hoops standpoint it makes sense.

Although most have predicted that Allen will make his decision on where to hoop mid-season, there’s some strength to the idea of Allen suiting up for Chicago.

This rumor most likely has legs, and if the Bulls do add Allen to their already talented roster, they’ll add one more notch to what could be their Eastern Conference champion belt.
