Atlanta Hawks: Can Paul Millsap Keep Making Three-Pointers?
By Adam McGee
It’s hard to know exactly why Millsap’s shooting improved quite so much. In reality, it was probably a combination of factors. All of a sudden, he found himself in a new city, in a new system, where he had to either sink or swim, based heavily on his play behind the arc. The rotation and the strategy acted as nice complements to that, and he had a coaching staff committed to creating a shooting identity for the team as a whole.
There was still a bigger factor at play though, and it’s one that should give Millsap every chance of carrying last year’s shooting forward. Out of nowhere, an improvement of that nature can only come about with a significant increase in confidence and belief. Millsap has gone on record stating that he felt greater confidence than at any other stage of his NBA career during his first season as a Hawk.
That’s easy to understand too, because he played great. Should he be confident moving forward? Coming off his first All-Star selection, and consideration for the USA Basketball squad, it’s pretty difficult to see why he wouldn’t.
