Atlanta Hawks: 2014 Preseason Preview
By Adam McGee
Detroit Pistons – Oct. 18
The Detroit Pistons have had one of the more intriguing offseasons in the NBA. The hire of Stan Van Gundy in the dual role of president of basketball operations and head coach seems set to bring about a philosophy change in the Motor City, and the team’s free agent signings support that.
The Pistons ranked 29th in the NBA in 3-point shooting last year, and as a result Van Gundy has turned to the likes of Jodie Meeks, Cartier Martin, Caron Butler and D.J. Augustin.
This game with the Pistons marks only the second home game of the Hawks preseason schedule, and fittingly so considering the opposition. It will be a homecoming of sorts at Philips Arena, as Martin, and long time Hawk and Atlanta native Josh Smith, both make appearances at Philips Arena.
The season series was split between the two teams last season, so the Hawks will be looking to grab an edge heading into a new year.
