The 5 Most Intriguing Games On The Minnesota Timberwolves’ Schedule
3. Minnesota Timberwolves at Washington Wizards – Dec. 16, 7 p.m. ET
The last time that Wizards fans got to see Flip Saunders as a head coach in D.C., it was as Wizards head coach in a loss to the Boston Celtics. Flip started the now-legendary lineup of John Wall, Nick Young, Chris Singleton, Andray Blatche, and Javale McGee, and the Celtics won 100-94 in a game that was never that close to push the Wizards to a 2-14 start for the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season.
Flip would be fired after a 20-point loss to the Philadelphia 76ers in the next game.
Saunders’s tenure in Washington was a disaster. Led by Young, Blatche, and McGee, the Wizards never eclipsed 30 wins in his two-plus seasons in Washington, and the team was absolutely unwatchable. Now, he coaches the Timberwolves.
I’m sure that when Minnesota comes to town in December, Saunders will be met with a beautiful chorus of boos that will make this game fun to watch in and of itself.
Besides that, this game will feature a Wall/Rubio point guard duel, Wiggins and Bradley Beal doing fun things, and a fun and terrifying Nikola Pekovic/Marcin Gortat Eastern European standoff. All of that means an entertaining basketball game.
