Trade Him

This is perhaps the most interesting option for the Hawks. Millsap is an outstanding player, who there’s no doubt would improve any team in the NBA. Coming off of an All-Star season, with a relatively cheap expiring contract, Millsap is just about as valuable a trade chip as you can find in the NBA.

If they’re looking to trade, when should the Hawks pull the trigger though?

Although it’s generally perceived that you don’t get equal value on mid-season trades, Millsap could be an exception. A team, in win-now mode, desperate to make a final push towards a title, would have to be very tempted by the prospect of adding Millsap’s skill set.

In that sort of scenario, a couple of high quality picks, a nice role player and an expiring contract could be a tempting offer for the Hawks, if their season isn’t going to plan.
