Experience

Not only is Gay an eight-year NBA veteran, but he is one of the few guys left in the squad to have previously experienced an international tournament also. As part of the undefeated USA squad from the 2010 World Championship, Gay is already familiar with the rigors and attention that surrounds the tournament.

Gay played in all nine games in 2010, averaging seven points in 13.4 minutes per game. He was also a prominent member of the training camps prior to the London Olympics in 2012, before ultimately being one of the final players cut from the roster.

Gay knows his way around international play and the USA Basketball setup, and will be able to advise his younger and more inexperienced teammates.
