From a basketball standpoint, Butler is going to provide the Pistons with something they lacked last season. Alongside Cartier Martin, Butler provides Detroit with genuine wing depth, and perhaps most importantly, forwards who can shoot the ball.

Butler’s body may not allow him to be  the dominant force he once was, but he’s still a great acquisition for the Pistons. They were a team devoid of leadership and fighting spirit last season, and now, in Van Gundy and Butler, they’ve got that both on and off the court.
